Therapy Horses

A Little Love Goes a Long Way.
Some of the horses we rescue are old, lame, neglected or abandoned. Some are donated as lesson horses. And for others, the owner can just no longer care for them. No matter the situation Throwaway Ponies offers the assurance these horses will be well loved and cared for.

Each horse is special and has a story to tell.  Perhaps one of the greatest joys of horsemanship is learning the personality and quirks each horse exhibits.

Horses represent power, control and freedom. Many who are assaulted, battered and abused have lost trust of their outside world. With confidence shattered, they begin to quietly "disconnect" physically, mentally and emotionally from themselves and others.

Horses read body language and respond intuitively. Horses identify with people’s feelings and react to their needs by responding gently and without judgment. Horses are honest teachers about relationships and problem solving by giving the rider command and at the same time establishing boundaries of control.

Horse1
Children love to take lessons on Honey.
She is a lesson horse only and not available for adoption.

Horse2
Dutchess is our "gentle giant". She is a PMU mare from Canada. She would make a great companion horse and could use a sponsor.

Horse3
Jenny makes all sorts of weird sounds for the kids to laugh at.

Horse4
Sierra is a young (5-6) palomino that is ready to be adopted.

Horse5
Cody was abused until a lady bought him and donated him to TaPs. Note the halter marks on his face.  He is ready to be adopted by a forever home.

Horse8
Lance was abandoned because he is lame and cannot be ridden. He is very well trained. He would make a good companion horse. He is in need of a sponsor or a forever home.
Horse9
Dusty is another PMU mare from Canada.  She has been to 3 trainers who say she will never be ridden.  She has great ground manners and has taught many young horses how to behave in the herd.  She would be a good companion horse and needs a sponsor.

Horse10
Shadow was donated when his family could no longer care for him. He has chronic founder (a foot condition) and has to wear special shoes. He also has to take thyroid medication. We are hoping he becomes sound enough for the kids to ride.
